Moonlight Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Patch

Moonlight’s 2022 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc patch was designed to be given to UTMB’s visitors.

Mountains like the Mont-Blanc and Romsdalshornet served as the main inspiration. We’ve used public domain pictures to give a meaninful and truthful references, and with the right look and feel.

We iterated over a dozen different looks to end up with the one that could be manufactured on short notice and yet be memorable.

The work spotted in the wild.

Moonlight Mountain Gear

Moonlight is a company specialised in producing high quality and long lasting mountain equipment.

The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc — best known as UTMB —, is the most famous and competitive ultra running race in the world. For 2022’s edition, Moonlight partnered up with us to give their customers a token of appreciation while they visited their stand in the Ulta-Trail Village in Chamonix, France.

The Patch

An old school [and cool] way to show someone the places and experiences they’ve enjoyed. Patches are a simple and traditional way to convey this message. They also work as a fashion statement helping to organically promote Moonlight to like minded peeps.

The design used the most obvious and attractive feature of the event. The Mont-Blanc massif’s silhouete. Initially we considered using Romsdalshornet silhouete, a hommage to Moonlight’s backyard mountains. But to stick to the true spirit of patches, having the Mont-Blanc as the main feature was the right call since it was a token for the event. We carefully selected the best positioning and refined the contours to be easily identifiable in the patch. Everything was kept simple and elegant so anyone can make the best use of it.
